What to do when we are closed over the Christmas Bank Holidays

As the bank holidays approach it is worth thinking about what you would do if you or a member of your family became unwell over the holiday period.  We recommend that you:-

• stock up on over the counter medicines.  Your pharmacist can also give you advice on treatments and products available.
• check you have enough prescription medicine to see you through the holidays and if you are going away pack enough for at least the duration of your holiday. 

If you need medical assistance when we are closed you can:

• phone the  NHS 111 service for medical advice by dialling 111.
• pop in to your local pharmacy for advice and over the counter medication.
• If your problem is urgent phone the NHS 111 service by dialling 111. To avoid putting undue pressure on this service, please only phone  if your problem cannot wait until we reopen.
• phone 999 immediately in the event of a life threatening, medical emergency.

Please avoid using emergency/urgent services and hospital A&E departments for routine problems or for problems that can wait until we reopen.

We are closed on Wednesday 25th December and Thursday 26th December 2019 and then again on Wednesday 1st January 2020.

Devon Carers are open Monday-Friday 8am-6pm and Saturdays 9am-1pm but will be closed on the bank holidays (25 and 26 December 2019, and 1 January 2020). If carers need support during these times, please call Care Direct on 0345 600 0388.

Top tips from carers for managing Christmas:

·         Talk to family and friends – raise concerns and worries, let them know how you’re planning to approach Christmas in advance and don’t be afraid to ask for help

·         Talk to other carers – peer support can be invaluable throughout the year but especially around Christmas. Find out about Devon Carers support groups in your area 

·         Be kind to yourself – recognise the importance of your role and take some time to be generous to yourself too.

Update on Nasal Flu availability 13 December 2019

National supply of the children's nasal flu vaccine is extremely limited at present.  We will therefore continue to offer the injectable flu vaccine should our nasal flu vaccine stock diminish.

If you do not wish your child to have the injectable vaccine then please refer to our Practice website for updates on availability of the nasal vaccine.
