What to do when we are closed over Easter

As the bank holiday approaches it is worth thinking about what you would do if you or a member of your family became unwell over the holiday period.  We recommend that you:-
  • stock up on over the counter medicines.  Your pharmacist can also give you advice on treatments and products available.
  • check you have enough prescription medicine to see you through the holidays and if you are going away pack enough for at least the duration of your holiday.
If you need medical assistance when we are closed you can:
  • phone the  NHS 111 service for medical advice by dialling 111.
  • pop in to your local pharmacy for advice and over the counter medication.
  • If your problem is urgent phone the NHS 111 service by dialling 111. To avoid putting undue pressure on this service, please only phone  if your problem cannot wait until we reopen.
  • phone 999 immediately in the event of a life threatening, medical emergency.

Please avoid using emergency/urgent services and hospital A&E departments for routine problems or for problems that can wait until we reopen.

GP appointments are now available on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from Devon Primary Link at Honiton Hospital.  To book an appointment please phone 01392 269486.  The bookable appointment line is open Thursday and Friday 0800 to 1800.

We are closed on Friday 3 April and Monday 6 April 2015 . Otherwise we are open as usual.

Brain Tumour Awareness Day Friday 6th March

We are joining thousands of people around the UK wearing bandanas to mark Brain Tumour Awareness Day .  We will be "wearing ours out"  in the practice on Friday 6th March 2015. Everyone taking part will wear a specially designed bandana that we have purchased to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity.     We will also have a collection box out on Friday if anyone would like to support us.   You can also find out more and purchase merchandise at   www.thebraintumourcharity.org

We are inspired to do something on Friday March 6th as it is also the day that Dr Mat King will start his journey to walk the Camino.   We wanted to raise awareness not only for the Brain Tumour Charity but also to mark this significant day for Mat, his family and all those who will join him on his walk.  Follow Mat's progress at https://matthewkingcamino.wordpress.com/

Mat has also set up a charity donation page at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=MatthewKingCamino&d-49489-p=1  where funds raised will go to Force.

Dr Sarah Russell

Dr Russell has changed her days of work to Monday mornings, Tuesday all day and Wednesday afternoons.

Patients who are outside our area

The practice is not currently taking part in the voluntary scheme to register patients outside of our practice area.

Periodically our doctors will review their lists of patients and look at those who are registered here but are outside our practice area.  If you are not currently receiving ongoing care for a current episode of illness or your health is currently stable and well managed, we will write to you to ask you to register with a doctor who covers your area.

We are currently going through this process and some of our patients will receive letters asking them to register elsewhere.  We do appreciate that moving surgeries can be upsetting but in the longer term getting to know your new practice and building a relationship with your doctor will be beneficial should you become ill in the future.

If you are not sure where your nearest surgery is you can find the closest services to you at NHS Choices http://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/GP/LocationSearch/4

Dr Matthew King

We would like to thank everyone for their patience, understanding and support.  Thank you also  for the cards and gifts that have been handed in to reception.  These have been passed on to Mat who has been overwhelmed by your kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity.

Mat says:

Together with friends I have been “training” for the Camino by walking on Dartmoor, walking sections of the South West coastal path, and selected circular walks in East Devon. My kit list is sorted, flights are booked, and feet have thicker skin. I fly to Biarritz, and then by bus and train to St Jean Pied de Port which is the starting town to the north of the Pyrenees.

If anyone might be interested, a charity donation site has been set up by my family.  The charity is FORCE which seems very appropriate in the circumstances as well as my wife working there as a cancer care counsellor.
